3D Scanning in Lodi, CA
Contour Survey provides survey-grade 3D laser scanning in Lodi and northern San Joaquin County, documenting wineries, processing plants, and downtown buildings as registered point clouds and scan-to-CAD drawings.
3D Scanning in Lodi: Local Conditions
Lodi's scanning work follows the grape. The Lodi American Viticultural Area was recognized in February 1986, and in 2006 it was divided into seven sub-appellations, including Mokelumne River, Clements Hills, and Borden Ranch. Many of its old vines were planted between the Gold Rush and Prohibition, and the wineries that grew up around them range from old barns and crush pads to new production buildings. Winery work is crowded work: tanks, catwalks, glycol and process piping, barrel racks, and drains all compete for the same floor and overhead space. When a winery adds tanks, a bottling line, or a tasting room, the designer needs measured column positions, slab falls, and clear heights. A scan captures the whole room at once, and we turn it into plans, sections, and 3D linework of the piping and equipment that matters.
Food processing is the other industrial thread. Pacific Coast Producers, a fruit canner, is one of Lodi's largest employers, and plants of that kind are packed with conveyors, retorts, steam lines, and structure added over many seasons. Plant engineers planning a line change or equipment install between packs usually have a short shutdown window, which is where a fast, non-contact capture pays off. Downtown is older still. Lodi was incorporated in 1906, and the Lodi Arch on Pine Street, a Mission Revival structure built in 1907 by E.B. Brown for the first Lodi Tokay Carnival, was listed on the National Register and named California Historical Landmark No. 931 in 1980. Storefronts and commercial buildings around it come to a scanner when owners plan renovations, accessibility upgrades, or seismic work and find the old drawings missing or wrong.
Control comes first: primary GNSS, secondary control by Trimble S3 total station, and every Trimble X9 scan tied to that network, processed in Trimble Business Center in US survey feet. Control is held to 0.01 US survey feet relative to project control. Deliverables are a registered, cleaned point cloud in E57, LAS, or RCP, scan-to-CAD plans, sections, elevations, 3D linework, coded points, and a report stating the control basis, units, and accuracy achieved. New steel and anchor bolts on a production building can be checked through construction verification. We travel to Lodi from Lotus in El Dorado County and group field days to keep mobilization efficient. See 3D laser scanning, as-built surveys, scanning in Stockton, and our Lodi surveying page.
