3D Scanning in Vacaville, CA
We provide surveyor-led 3D laser scanning across Vacaville and northern Solano County, documenting manufacturing interiors, secure institutional buildings, and historic structures as registered point clouds tied to survey control.
3D Scanning in Vacaville: Local Conditions
Vacaville is best known for what it makes. In October 2024, Lonza completed its purchase from Roche of the Genentech large-scale biologics site here, with about 330,000 liters of bioreactor capacity. Lonza said it planned to invest about CHF 500 million to upgrade the site. Upgrades in a plant like that happen inside crowded process space: stainless vessels, utility and process piping, platforms, and cleanroom suites, often while production runs elsewhere in the building. Engineers need to know where everything actually is before they can route new lines or set new equipment. A scan captures the whole congested volume without contact, and from it we draft plans, sections, and 3D linework of the runs and equipment that matter. We follow the owner's rules for gowning, escorts, and access to controlled areas.
The city also holds two state prisons side by side. The California Medical Facility opened in 1955 and serves as the health care center of the state prison system, with an acute care hospital, psychiatric units, and a hospice. California State Prison, Solano opened next door in August 1984 on 146 acres. Renovation and repair work in secure buildings like these favors scanning, because every hour inside costs escorts and lockdown planning. One visit captures the rooms, corridors, and mechanical spaces so the design team does not have to go back. The city's history runs much further back. Vacaville was founded in 1851, named for Juan Manuel Vaca, and incorporated in 1892. The Peña Adobe, built in 1842 by Juan Felipe Peña, has been on the National Register since 1972. Adobe walls are thick and uneven, and a scan records them as they are.
Control comes first: primary GNSS control, secondary Trimble S3 total station control, and every Trimble X9 scan tied to that network, processed in Trimble Business Center in US survey feet. Control is held to 0.01 US survey feet relative to project control. Deliverables are a registered, cleaned point cloud in E57, LAS, or RCP, scan-to-CAD plans, sections, elevations, 3D linework, coded points, and a report stating the control basis, units, and accuracy achieved. Your team can model from the cloud if the project calls for it. We are based in Lotus in El Dorado County and work along I-80 into Fairfield and Davis. See 3D laser scanning, as-built surveys, and our Vacaville surveying page.
