3D Scanning in Hayward, CA
We provide surveyor-led Trimble laser scanning across Hayward and south Alameda County, from industrial and logistics buildings near the bay to older structures along the Hayward Fault, all tied to project survey control.
3D Scanning in Hayward: Local Conditions
Hayward's industrial land is extensive. The city's General Plan designates the large crescent of industrial land along its western and southwestern edges as the Industrial Technology and Innovation Corridor, and the uses it allows include warehousing and logistics, research and development, and traditional, advanced, specialized, and food manufacturing. Those buildings generate a steady run of scanning work. Racking and conveyor layouts need clear heights, column grids, and sprinkler and roof structure measured. Equipment installs and process lines need the slab, the existing utilities, and the overhead steel in one coordinate system. Re-tenanting a big box means checking what a previous occupant added or removed. A scan from the floor captures all of it without lifts, and the slab can be mapped for deviation and levelness at the same time. New industrial construction adds construction verification: anchor bolts and steel checked to 1/8 inch from the scan, with total station check shots on any bolt group near tolerance.
The other thing Hayward is known for is the fault. According to the California Department of Conservation, the Hayward Fault runs about 74 miles from San Jose to San Pablo Bay, and it runs directly under the old city hall downtown. Fault creep moves the ground there a few millimeters a year, pulling apart sidewalks, pipelines, and structures that sit astride the fault. The old city hall, finished in 1930 at C Street and Mission Boulevard, has been too unsafe to use since the 1980s, and in 1996 it was given historic status. The largest earthquake on the fault in recorded history, in October 1868, was an estimated magnitude 7. For a building near a mapped trace, a scan tied to survey control is a measured baseline: walls, floors, and openings recorded in real coordinates, so a later scan of the same building lands in the same frame and the two can be compared directly.
We set primary control with GNSS, secondary control with a Trimble S3 total station, and register every Trimble X9 scan to it in Trimble Business Center, in US survey feet. Control is held to 0.01 US survey feet relative to project control. You receive a registered, cleaned point cloud (E57, LAS, or RCP), scan-to-CAD plans, sections, elevations, 3D linework, coded points, and a report stating the control basis, units, and accuracy achieved. On fault-adjacent buildings we set control that can be recovered later, so a second epoch is registered to the same frame as the first and the comparison means something. We also work in Fremont and Oakland. See 3D laser scanning, as-built surveys, and our Hayward surveying page.
