3D Scanning in Salinas, CA
We provide surveyor-led Trimble laser scanning in Salinas, the Monterey County seat, for agricultural processing plants, Oldtown buildings, and new industrial construction, planned as dedicated field mobilizations on survey control.
3D Scanning in Salinas: Local Conditions
Salinas is the agricultural center of a valley that grows a large majority of the salad greens eaten in the United States, and the city's own history page calls it the Salad Bowl of the World. That business depends on getting produce cold fast. At a vacuum-cooling plant, wet lettuce, greens, celery, or broccoli goes into a sealed tube and the pressure is dropped until surface moisture evaporates and cools it, and a refrigerated warehouse holds the product for short-term storage and shipping. Those buildings are full of things a designer has to work around: cooling tubes, refrigeration piping and units, insulated panel walls, dock doors and levelers, and slabs that carry heavy equipment. A scan captures all of that in one pass, so an expansion, new cooler, or equipment replacement is laid out against the plant as it stands.
The city center is older. The Southern Pacific reached Salinas in the 1870s, the 1873 freight depot is the city's oldest surviving commercial building, and Salinas incorporated in 1874. John Steinbeck was born here in 1902, and the John Steinbeck House on Central Avenue, an 1897 Queen Anne, has been on the National Register since 2000. Many Oldtown buildings date to the late 1800s and early 1900s, and the National Steinbeck Center opened on Main Street in 1998. Rehabilitation and re-use of buildings from that era needs measured facades, floors, and structure. New processing and industrial buildings can add construction verification: anchor bolts and steel checked to 1/8 inch from the scan, with total station check shots on any bolt group near tolerance, and slab deviation and levelness maps.
Salinas is well outside our home area. We are based in Lotus, in El Dorado County, and we treat a Salinas job as a mobilization, with scope and access agreed before we travel and field days scheduled back to back. Control is GNSS primary and Trimble S3 secondary, held to 0.01 US survey feet relative to project control, and every Trimble X9 scan is registered in Trimble Business Center in US survey feet. You receive a registered, cleaned point cloud (E57, LAS, or RCP), scan-to-CAD plans, sections, elevations, 3D linework, coded points, and a report stating the control basis and accuracy achieved. See 3D laser scanning, scanning in Santa Cruz, and our Salinas surveying page.
