3D Scanning in Sausalito, CA

Sausalito climbs straight out of Richardson Bay, and the hillside is where scanning earns its place first. Lots are narrow, stacked, and reached as often by public stairways as by streets, and the ground between them is a century of terracing: retaining walls stacked on retaining walls, garages cantilevered over the road, decks reaching out to the view. Measuring that by hand is slow and, on some of these slopes, genuinely unsafe. From a few setups the scanner records the ground surface, every wall face and stair, the existing house, and the neighboring structures whose eave and ridge lines drive height and view analysis, and we filter vegetation in processing to leave a true ground model underneath.

The waterfront is a different problem entirely. The Marinship district is bay fill from the World War II shipyard, now carrying marine industry, studios, offices, and the floating-home community, and fill settles. Long-span shipyard-era sheds with heavy timber and steel framing are being adapted to new uses and need real structural geometry before anyone designs into them; piers, seawalls, and bulkheads need documented geometry and, often, a baseline against which future movement can be measured. We set survey control tied to published horizontal and vertical datums, register the scans to it, and deliver structural as-builts, cross sections, and repeat epochs for monitoring on that basis. Above the town, the Highway 101 corridor climbing the Waldo Grade toward the Golden Gate Bridge approach adds tunnels, retaining structures, and overcrossings to the region's inventory of control-tied scanning subjects.

Deliverables are registered point clouds in E57 or RCP, scan-to-CAD plans, sections, and elevations in DWG/DXF, and Revit models at an agreed level of detail.
