3D Scanning in Santa Rosa, CA

Santa Rosa is the largest city in the North Bay and its building stock reflects a complicated history. The Railroad Square district holds brick and stone commercial buildings from the era before the 1906 earthquake, much of the rest of downtown was rebuilt after the 1969 earthquakes, and the Fountaingrove and Coffey Park neighborhoods were substantially rebuilt after the 2017 Tubbs Fire. Each of those layers generates scanning work of a different kind: unreinforced masonry retrofit and adaptive reuse in the historic blocks, tenant repositioning and modernization in the mid-century commercial buildings, and existing-conditions documentation on rebuild-era lots where the ground, the driveways, and the utility connections have all changed since anything was drawn.

The public infrastructure is substantial for a city this size. SMART serves downtown and north Santa Rosa with track, platforms, and grade crossings running through the middle of the city; Santa Rosa Creek passes through downtown in an engineered flood-control channel with bridges, walls, and culverts along it; and the Highway 101 corridor and its interchanges cut the city north to south. Scanning any of those is control-network work. We establish and observe survey control on published horizontal and vertical datums, register every scan to it, and deliver clearance surveys, structural as-builts of decks, abutments, channel walls, and retaining structures, and baseline epochs that later scans can be differenced against.

Sonoma County's wine industry adds production buildings, barrel rooms, tasting rooms, and hospitality structures that scan well and are frequently mid-renovation. Deliverables across all of it are registered point clouds in E57 or RCP, DWG/DXF plans, sections, and elevations, and Revit models at an agreed level of detail. Records of Survey and Corner Records arising from the control work are filed through the Sonoma County Surveyor and recorded with the County Clerk-Recorder in Santa Rosa.
