3D Scanning in Woodland, CA

We provide surveyor-led Trimble laser scanning in Woodland, the Yolo County seat, documenting downtown historic buildings, food processing plants, and large distribution buildings as point clouds tied to survey control.

3D Scanning in Woodland: Local Conditions

Woodland incorporated in 1871 and is the Yolo County seat, and its downtown is one of the most intact in the valley. The Downtown Woodland Historic District, listed on the National Register in 1999, runs roughly along Main Street from Elm Street to Third Street and counts 59 contributing buildings from 1866 to 1947, in styles from Commercial Italianate and Richardson Romanesque to Mission Revival and Streamline Moderne. The Woodland Opera House on Second Street was designed in 1885 by San Francisco architect Thomas J. Welsh, burned in 1892, and was rebuilt in 1895 and 1896. It is California Historical Landmark No. 851, became a state historic park in 1976, and reopened in 1989 after a long closure and restoration. A few blocks away, the 1917 Yolo County Courthouse by William Henry Weeks, Beaux-Arts with marble rotundas, now houses the county Probation Department. Buildings of this age have been reworked many times, and a scan records their facades, interiors, and floor levels as they really are before an architect draws a change.

Outside downtown, Woodland is an agriculture and food processing town. Pacific Coast Producers and the Target Distribution Center are among its largest employers. Those are two very different scanning jobs. A processing plant is crowded: tanks, process piping, platforms, and conveyors packed between columns, often with equipment swapped out in the short window between seasons, so the engineer needs a complete measured record of the space before ordering anything. A distribution building is open and large, and the questions are clear heights, column grids, dock positions, and how flat the slab really is before racking goes in. We deliver slab deviation and levelness maps for that, and on new buildings we verify anchor bolts and structural steel to 1/8 inch from the scan, adding total station check shots on any bolt group near tolerance.

Every job starts with control: primary GNSS control, secondary control by Trimble S3 total station, and Trimble X9 scans registered to it in Trimble Business Center, in US survey feet. Control is held to 0.01 US survey feet relative to project control, and tighter verification is available on request with the achieved accuracy stated in the report. Deliverables are a registered, cleaned point cloud in E57, LAS, or RCP, scan-to-CAD plans, sections, elevations, 3D linework, and coded points, plus a report giving the control basis, units, and accuracy achieved. Woodland is on Interstate 5 just north of Davis, close enough that a building on Main Street and a plant on the edge of town can share one field trip. Our Process

1

Project Planning

We assess your site and requirements to plan optimal scan positions and deliverable specifications.

2

Field Scanning

Our technicians capture millions of precise 3D points using state-of-the-art laser scanners.

3

Data Processing

Scan data is registered, cleaned, and processed into unified point clouds.

4

Deliverable Creation

We produce both interactive 3D models for easy visualization and traditional 2D plan sets — so every stakeholder can understand the site, whether they read blueprints or not.

3D Scanning in Woodland: FAQ

Yes. One visit captures the street facade, the interior, the upper floors, and the roofline, all registered to survey control. We produce floor plans, building sections, and exterior elevations that show the building as it stands, including out-of-plumb walls and floors that have moved, and the point cloud comes with them so the architect can pull any further dimension later.
That is usually the best time. With lines down, we can set up close to tanks, piping, and platforms and capture them from several sides. The result is a registered cloud plus plans, sections, and 3D linework of the runs and equipment the engineer is replacing or routing around, so the retrofit can be designed before the next season starts.
A slab deviation and levelness map, plans showing the column grid and dock positions, sections with clear heights to the underside of structure, and the registered point cloud. Everything is tied to project control, so the racking designer and the contractor are working from the same measured building.
