3D Scanning in West Sacramento, CA

We provide survey-grade 3D laser scanning across West Sacramento and eastern Yolo County, from port warehouses and food plants to riverfront buildings, with every scan tied to project survey control.

3D Scanning in West Sacramento: Local Conditions

West Sacramento is a young city with an old working waterfront. It incorporated on January 1, 1987, joining the communities of Broderick, Bryte, and West Sacramento, along with the Southport area, into one city. The Port of West Sacramento is older than the city itself: it opened to deep-sea traffic in 1963 when the Sacramento Deep Water Ship Channel was finished, a channel 43 miles long and 30 feet deep. The port handles bulk and break-bulk cargo rather than containers, including rice and other farm products, cement, lumber, and steel, along with heavy pieces such as wind turbine parts, generators, and transformers. Around it are the kinds of buildings that need measured existing conditions before anything changes: bulk handling structures, warehouses, conveyors, and equipment pads. The city has also drawn food and agricultural companies, among them Nippon Shokken, TOMRA, and Bayer Crop Science, which set up North American operations here, and Raley's runs its headquarters in the city.

The riverfront brings a different set of structures. The Tower Bridge, a vertical lift bridge opened in 1935 with a 209-foot lift span and Streamline Moderne towers, links the city to downtown Sacramento and has been on the National Register since 1982. Sutter Health Park opened beside the river in 2000. The city is also ringed by levees. The West Sacramento Area Flood Control Agency built the Southport project, including a new 3.8-mile setback levee with cutoff walls and seepage berms along the Sacramento River. Pump stations, outfalls, and retaining walls along levees like these are scanned for the agencies and engineers who own them, and every setup is tied to control so a later epoch can be compared directly. For a new plant or distribution building, we verify anchor bolts and structural steel to 1/8 inch from the scan, with total station check shots on any bolt group near tolerance.

Control comes before the scanner. We set primary GNSS control, carry secondary control with a Trimble S3 total station, and register every Trimble X9 setup to that network in Trimble Business Center, in US survey feet, with control held to 0.01 US survey feet relative to project control. You receive a registered, cleaned point cloud (E57, LAS, or RCP), scan-to-CAD plans, sections, elevations, 3D linework and coded points, and a report stating the control basis, units, and accuracy achieved. If your team plans to model the plant or building, it can model from the cloud, and the report tells them exactly what control they are working on. West Sacramento is a regular stop for us from our El Dorado County base, so return visits for added coverage are easy to schedule. 4

Deliverable Creation

We produce both interactive 3D models for easy visualization and traditional 2D plan sets — so every stakeholder can understand the site, whether they read blueprints or not.

3D Scanning in West Sacramento: FAQ

Yes. A scan picks up the structure, clear heights, columns, existing conveyors and pads, and the slab in one visit, tied to survey control. From it we draft plans and sections for the equipment layout, and the registered cloud lets the engineer check fit and clearance for anything new before it is fabricated or shipped up the channel.
We scan structures of that kind for the agencies, engineers, and contractors responsible for them, under whatever access and permit terms the owner sets. The important part is the control: targets are tied to GNSS and total station control, so the cloud carries real coordinates and elevations, and a repeat scan lands in the same frame to show any change.
Yes. From the scan we produce deviation and levelness maps of the slab, referenced to project control, that show high and low areas across the whole floor rather than at a few spot shots. That is useful before racking, process lines, or new equipment are set, and again after a pour on new construction.
