3D Scanning in Napa, CA
We provide surveyor-led 3D laser scanning in Napa and throughout Napa County, documenting wine caves, historic stone wineries, production facilities, and river and flood-control structures as registered point clouds.
3D Scanning in Napa: Local Conditions
Napa gives a scanner two subjects it handles better than any other method. The first is the wine cave. Hillside caves are irregular, curved, unlit, and completely GNSS-denied, so a tape-and-sketch as-built of one is close to fiction. We run survey control in through the portal, scan the cave in a traversed sequence of setups, and deliver a registered cloud from which centerlines, cross sections, cover over the crown, barrel-storage capacity, and mechanical routing can all be measured. The second is the historic stone winery. Rubble stone and unreinforced masonry buildings are out of plumb by design and more so after the 2014 South Napa earthquake, and retrofit and restoration teams need the deformation recorded rather than idealized. Scanning does that without touching the fabric.
Production and hospitality buildings make up the everyday work: crush pads, tank rooms with congested piping and platforms, barrel buildings, and tasting rooms being expanded or repositioned, all of which need real clearances and structural geometry before a use permit set is drawn. Napa County's use-permit process rewards submittals built on measured existing conditions, and one scanning visit serves the architect, the structural engineer, and the process contractor from the same dataset.
The public side of the city centers on the river. The Napa River flood protection project rebuilt bridges, floodwalls, terraces, and bypass structures through and around downtown, and that inventory of structures is exactly the kind of asset that benefits from control-tied scanning: clearance surveys, structural as-builts, channel and terrace cross sections, and baseline epochs for later comparison, all referenced to published horizontal control and NAVD88. Deliverables are E57 or RCP point clouds, DWG/DXF drawings, and Revit models. Survey filings go through the Napa County Surveyor and are recorded with the Napa County Recorder-County Clerk. Our Process
Project Planning
We assess your site and requirements to plan optimal scan positions and deliverable specifications.
Field Scanning
Our technicians capture millions of precise 3D points using state-of-the-art laser scanners.
Data Processing
Scan data is registered, cleaned, and processed into unified point clouds.
Deliverable Creation
We produce both interactive 3D models for easy visualization and traditional 2D plan sets — so every stakeholder can understand the site, whether they read blueprints or not.
