The town climbs the bluff above the Carquinez Strait in terraces, tied together by retaining walls, stairways, and streets that fall faster than any ramp standard contemplates, while the flat ground along Pomona Street holds the storefronts, the refinery frontage, and the routes toward the John Swett High School and Carquinez Middle School campuses. Contra Costa County Public Works maintains the roads and has included unincorporated Crockett in its countywide curb ramp work. The practical work here is separating the locations where a conforming curb ramp can actually be built from the locations where the grade rules it out and an alternate route or a documented technical infeasibility is the real answer.
