Albany has been rebuilding curb ramps to current standards along its main commercial spine, including a Solano Avenue curb ramp project between Madison and Masonic that reconstructed corner ramps outright, alongside sidewalk, crosswalk, and pavement rehabilitation work elsewhere in the city. Ramp reconstruction in a built-out commercial street is unforgiving: the corner already contains a hydrant, a pole, a vault lid, a driveway apron, and a storm inlet, and the ramp, its flares, its landing, and the gutter transition all have to fit around them while holding slope.

The rest of Albany adds its own constraints. Lots here are among the narrowest in the East Bay, and the sidewalk in front of them is frequently crossed by a driveway apron that tips the walk toward the gutter and puts the cross slope over the limit for the width of the drive. Along San Pablo Avenue the sidewalk carries transit stops and heavy frontage activity, so the accessible route has to survive around bus pads and utility furniture. We measure by scan or dense total-station observation and compute running slope, cross slope, flare slopes, landing size and slope, gutter counter-slope, and detectable warning placement from a modeled surface tied to control, so the report holds up when someone re-checks it. On private property we cover entrance ramps, thresholds, exterior routes, and accessible stalls and aisles.
